A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: that Dniepropetrovsk bridge and town are coming under artillery fire from the Germans; of Soviet attacks on the Dniepropetrovsk bridgehead; that Goering is anxious for fighter protection (at the bridgehead); that the German 11th Army is making progress at Berislav; of plans for an 11th Army attack on the Isthmus of Perekop, between Crimea and the mainland; that the Germans believe the Soviet 24th Army to be planning attacks south east of Smolensk; that the Group 'Schmidt' is to continue its attacks in the direction of Schluesselburg, east of Leningrad; that special efforts are being made to get aviation fuel from Tripoli to aerodromes in Cyrenaica; that quantities of fuel have been dispatched for the German Air Force (GAF) from Tripoli to Cyrenaica; a report on British air activity on the Libyan Front, from a photo recce of August 26; a report of a collision of two British cruisers Frobisher and Shropshire off Mersa Matruh; that U-boats are to be withdrawn from north Norway to facilitate air attacks on British submarines in the area. This file also contains intelligence that the German Police Officer Commanding in the areas of Corinthia and Krains requests the retention of 171 Reserve Police Battalion; and a report of the use of German police forces in back areas on the Russian Front, including for bridge repairs, traffic control and road protection, with lists of the prisoners taken, and the bandits, partisans and Jews shot.
