Government Code and Cypher School: Signals Intelligence Passed to the Prime Minister, Messages and Correspondence

A file of signals intelligence reports, messages, and correspondence issued by the Government Code and Cypher School and sent by the head ('C') of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) to the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. This file includes the following reports: of a movement by the 1st Panzer Group to extend a bridgehead near Dniepropetrovsk; Soviet air attacks on bridges; the movement of the battle HQ of the 8th Air Corps to a point on the Moscow-Leningrad railway; orders to Army Group South to force the crossing of the Dnieper at Bereslaw; orders for the 4th and 5th Air Corps; Soviet attacks against the bridgehead; the arrival by German forces at the River Snov south east of Gomel; adverse weather and poor road conditions hindering a German attack towards Leningrad; large-scale Soviet movements in the Leningrad area; 4th Air Fleet orders relating to the reconnaissance of Crimea to establish Soviet intentions, locations and movements; repairs to the Cernavoda bridge over the Danube in Romania following Soviet bombing; a message from the Italian ambassador to Turkey reporting a meeting with a Turkish official about British and Soviet moves against Iran, and the possible implications for Turkey; and a message reporting that Japanese firms in South America are dismissing foreign employees and evacuating the families of staff members.
