Publication of Information on Special Operations

25 Nov 1949

A file of memoranda discussing the possible threat to security posed by the publication of information on British special operations during the Second World War. These include a proposal that General Gubbins, the war-time head of the Special Operations Executive (SOE), write a book about the anti-Nazi resistance; the publication of a list of members of the Intelligence Corps Comrades Association; and the existence of the Special Forces Club. Both of the latter were held to pose minimal threat, but General Gubbins’ book was considered more serious, since it might help the Soviet regime crush any internal resistance movement.
