A file of correspondence and memoranda concerning the staffing of the various departments of the Government Code and Cypher School during the Second World War. The letters include a long debate over the dismissal of a Commander Hok from the code construction department in Oxford; a similar debate over the possible security risk posed by a Zionist linguist; discussion of the need to expand Bletchley Park, and provide more accommodation; and discussion of a variety of administrative matters, including the payment of an agent’s debts in Lisbon, security clearances, the collection of raw material for decipherment, and the involvement of the Oxford University Press in the war effort.
