Italy: Count Ciano (Son-in Law of Mussolini)

7 Feb 1944

A file of correspondence and press reports concerning the papers of Count Ciano, the former Italian Foreign Minister who was executed by the Germans in 1944. The letters include one sent from Ciano to Mussolini complaining of his ill-treatment, and another to Winston Churchill, along with the request that his papers be published by the allies. They are accompanied by a British discussion of whether Ciano’s papers should be printed, and the necessity for getting hold of them. The folder also contains several press clippings and newspapers covering the release of Ciano’s papers and the July 20th bomb plot against Hitler.
