A file of correspondence and memoranda concerning peace proposals from Italy during the Second World War. These include reports from several sources of talks held in Lisbon between the United States Consul General and his Italian counterpart discussing the possibility of a separate Italian peace, along with Germany's knowledge of this meeting, which it appeared had been orchestrated by a Frenchman working for the Germans. The file also contains letters discussing whether to broker a separate peace with Italy, the possible terms (such as the retention of Abyssinia), and the possible impact of a peace treaty on Germany and Romania, as well as the establishment of contacts in Italy, and the use of mediators for peace talks.
