A file of reports, correspondence, and memoranda concerning peace proposals directed from Germany to Britain in the early stages of the Second World War. Subjects discussed in this file include a reported peace offer from a group led by General Halder, offering to overthrow the Nazi regime and make peace with Britain; enquiries about the conditions Britain would wish to impose; the intentions of the Italian government; an anti-Nazi organisation based in Copenhagen wishing to overthrow the German government; rumours of German plans for the invasion of the Low Countries; a suggested insurrection by Bavarian royalists; a report on German morale and loyalty to the Nazi regime, the condition of the Nazi leadership, and the state of the German army; rumours that Hitler might be prepared to abdicate; suggestions for the reorganisation of Germany; and reported peace feelers put out via France and the Netherlands.
