Special Operations Executive (SOE): Relations with the Secret Intelligence Service (SIS)

13 Jan 1944

A file of correspondence, memoranda, and directives concerning Special Operations Executive (SOE) relations with the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) during the latter stages of the Second World War. In particular, the file discusses the need for a joint head of SOE and MI6 operations in Spain, where there had been friction between the services over responsibility for uncovering secret German assets. The documents discuss the need for and choice of the joint head, and include a directive setting out the responsibilities and activities of the two services. The file also includes instructions from MI6 to a former SOE agent engaged in private business in Brazil, giving a list of forbidden activities.
