Documents in this file include a report on German military strength, politics, economic capabilities, and possible strategic intentions in 1940, including comparisons of numbers of aircraft to Britain; a report from an unnamed agent on the internal German political situation; a memorandum in the wake of the Altmark incident on German use of neutral waters to shield their naval operations; diplomatic communications between Sir Roger Keyes and King Leopold III of Belgium offering assurances of Britain’s intention to defend Belgium from invasion; and a report on the international diplomatic situation, summarising German assurances of support to Hungary, Romania, and Italy.
