A file of weekly situation reports from the Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC), produced in the first weeks of the Second World War. The reports were distributed under strict conditions of secrecy to a limited number of people including Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain, Lord Halifax and Winston Churchill. Among the topics discussed in the reports are the progress of the German invasion of Poland; morale in Germany; German strategy and intentions; Italian and Japanese intentions and possibility of joining the war; Spanish, American and Turkish neutrality; economic warfare and the blockade of Germany; the Soviet-Finnish Winter War; German commerce raiding by U-boats and surface warships; Soviet military strength, foreign policy and economic situation; Nazi-Soviet relations; conditions in occupied Poland; Italian military strength; Romanian oil exports to Germany; and the relations between Hitler and his generals.
