A file of letters and memoranda from the papers of Sir Vincent Caillard, Financial Director of Vickers Ltd, recording the activities of the arms dealer Basil Zaharoff on behalf of Britain. Documents include letters recording conversations with the potential Turkish renegade Abdul Kerim, and a discussion of his possibilities as a British agent; a discussion of the financing of the election of the Greek Prime Minister Eleftherios Venizélos; correspondence recording Prime Minister H.H. Asquith’s reluctance to do so, and a report of a conversation with French President Raymond Poincaré on this issue; arrangements for the joint financing of the election; a letter about French fears of Anglo-Russian interference in the course of the war on behalf of enemy dynasties; and a press cutting about Zaharoff, along with a note to Zaharoff agreeing to censor such mentions in future.
