A file of letters and memoranda from the papers of Sir Vincent Caillard, Financial Director of Vickers Ltd, recording the activities of the arms dealer Basil Zaharoff on behalf of Britain. Documents include telegrams detailing Zaharoff’s movements; a letter reporting these sent to the Prime Minister, H.H. Asquith; correspondence with the War Office, the Treasury and Barclays Bank about the special account set up to fund Caillard and Zaharoff; letters from Zaharoff about his financial arrangements and the sale of securities; an application to the Prime Minister for permissions for Zaharoff to extend his operations to Romania, and an accompanying denial; a French newspaper clipping about a German retreat in the Balkans; a summary (in French) of international newspaper reports; a request for an interview with Caillard from a Monsieur Gabion; and further discussion of rewards and decorations for Zaharoff.
