Proposal to Call Hess as Witness in Libel Action

1941

A file of correspondence and memoranda concerning the possibility of Rudolf Hess being called as a witness in a libel suit brought against Harry Pollitt of the British Communist Party by the Duke of Hamilton. The duke was disputing a statement that he was a friend of Hess. Hess had come to Britain in May 1941 to make an unauthorised peace proposal to the British government, believing that he would be able to conduct negotiations through the duke.
