Summary of Inter-Service Intelligence Prepared up to 4.0 P.M. on 17th July, 1941

Syrian Armistice. There is evidence that on 11th and 12th July at least one squadron of single-seater fighters was withdrawn from Syria to Rhodes. ITALY. 8. It is reported that the present garrison of SARDINIA is four divisions and that more are being moved there. The object of the strengthening of the garrison is said to be insurance of the defence of the island during the operations against Russia. The normal garrison is two divisions but the presence of four conforms to estimates. The report of further reinforcement has not been confirmed from other sources.
