A volume of meeting minutes of the Joint Intelligence Sub-Committee (JIC). The JIC was formed of representatives from the intelligence services, the armed services, and the Foreign Office. Its purpose was to assess military, security, and foreign policy requirements and coordinate Britain's intelligence organisations accordingly. The JIC members discussed a vast range of international and domestic issues in their meetings. In this file, subjects documented include the organisation of the Future Intelligence Needs Sub-Committee and the nature of British intelligence requirements, such as topographical intelligence in East Asia; combined intelligence in the Pacific theatre; the distribution of information regarding foreign fishing fleets; political intelligence on the Balkan states; post-war plans for topographical intelligence in Germany and Italy; and the collection of information on the "Black Reichswehr" organisation in order to prevent the formation of a similar organisation in the aftermath of the Second World War.
