Middle East - Commands on Appreciation by Commanders in Chief. Report by Axis Planning Section

1 Mar 1941

Part 3. Use of Aerodromes in Syria. It will not be possible for the Germans to use air bases in Syria until or unless the compliance of the Vichy Government's representatives with German demands allows the building up of stocks of fuel and bombs and of ground organization. Air-Borne Action Against Crete and Cyprus. While the German need of transport aircraft for maintenance and supply everywhere remains so great, it is unlikely that a large operation with airborne troops would be carried out. At a later stage such an operation is to be expected, not only against the places mentioned but also against our lines of Communication in Egypt.
