Possible Developments of the Present Situation. Note by the Secretary

1 Feb 1940

In respect of this problem the Directors of Plans would like the considered views of the Joint Intelligence Sub-Committee on the courses of action which Italy might take in the present situation. They suggest that this might be considered on the following lines:(a) The action which Italy might take if she decided to intervene actively on the German side. (b) The action which Italy might take if she decided to take advantage of the situation and act against one of the countries with whom we have contractual obligations.
