(c) From a more general economic point of view, Europe is important to the Soviet Union as u source for the supply of machinery and technical equipment and, to a lesser extent, of certain raw materials, including oil. (d) The defeat of Germany has enable the Soviet Union to establish a belt of more or less subservient territories between her Western frontier and a general line Stettin-Trieste, and she will continue to consolidate her position throughout this area. Her southern frontier, however, is not yet protected by a similar belt of satellite territories.
