Possible Disturbances in the Far East Territories after Liberation Note by the Secretary

1 Jul 1945

ANNEX TOP SECRET 45/527 SECRETARY, J. I. S. OCCUPATIONAL COMMITMENTS IN THE FAR EAST 1. The Strategical Planning Section has been instructed to assess the occupational commitments that must be met by British manpower in the Far East. The period we are considering is after the immediate tasks on Japanese surrender are completed and all French, Netherlands and Portuguese possessions have been returned to their control. 2. The Civil Government by this time should be well established in Burma. In other re-occupied territories the normal administration will have had a limited time to get going and may well be restricted to the main centres of the population 3.
