Japanese Strategy and Capacity to Resist. Report by J.I.C.

1 May 1945

10. Possible Reinforcement of Japan. The Japanese appreciate that the invasion of Japan may begin in July and they are continuing to create new divisions as quickly as possible in the Islands of Japan. The only sources, however, of immediate reinforcement for the Japanese Islands by trained and equipped troops are the Japanese armies in Korea, Manchuria and China; as the Allied blockade of Japan develops and as the Japanese fear Allied landings on the China coast, the only route by which these reinforcements can reach Japan is by way of Southern Manchuria and Korea.
