Scale of Opposition in Java. Report by J.I.C.

1 May 1945

These forces may be located as follows:(a) West Java 26,000 mainly located in the Batavia and Bandoeng area. (b) East Java 26,000, mainly located in the Soerabaja area. Air Force 4. Opposition is likely to be negligible; the Japanese may have a few fighters and reconnaissance aircraft available in this area. They are improvising a certain number of wooden aircraft for suicide attacks, but their effectiveness would be limited by lack of effective cover. (Signed) V. CAVEINDISH BENTINCK J.A. SINCLAIR F.F.
