Political Intelligence Report Report by J.I.C.

1 May 1945

TOP SECRET J.I.C./779/45 ANNEX SECRETARY, J.P.S. Reference your 45/396 of 6th June, 1945. The Joint Intelligence Staff reply as follows:"Naval 1. Japan has two damaged 8" cruisers and not more than 2 destroyers, in the Southern area. All are at present based on Singapore. In addition she has a number of M.T.B's and minor warships. No reinforcement of these forces is likely. We have no knowledge as to what, if any, repair work is being carried out on the damaged cruisers, but in any case they are most unlikely to leave the area.
