Provision of Personnel with Knowledge of Far Eastern Languages. Report by J.I.C.

(i) Renew the appeal to public schools for volunteers to undergo training in Far Eastern languages, stressing the importance to the success of operations of an adequate supply of officers speaking an Oriental language and the certainty of commissions being granted to those who reach the required standard. (ii) Consider whether or not an officer who has not in some respect the qualities necessary to command troops, should be asked to volunteer for a course in oriental languages, before a decision is taken on his case.
