Operations in Borneo. Note by Sec.

1 Mar 1945

Air Forces 5. It is estimated that strengths in Borneo and adjoining areas will be as follows:M.B. F. FP/FB Recce Total Borneo 10 20 20 20 70 East N.E.I. 5 5 15 25 Java, Bali, Lombox 25 25 15 5 70 35 50 40 40 165 Small redistributions of medium bombers and fighters have recently taken place in the East N.E.I. and Java-Bali-Lombok areas, including the movement of a small fighter force from Malaya to Java. we do not expect that any reinforcement of Borneo, apart from perhaps some 5 suicide fighters, will be made, since the present small forces available in Burma, Malaya, Java, Siam and French Indo-China are already insufficient to meet Japanese commitments in Burma, and to defend Palembang, the Singapore approaches and the convoy routes down the French IndoChina and Siamese Coasts.
