11. In most cases, ground sources interpret these activities as preparations for the final stand of Hitler and his more fanatical adherents. The volume of the reports, however, and the colour of many of them suggest to us that the Germans themselves may be deliberately circulating exaggerated reports, as part of their policy of trying to convince the Allies that the total defeat of Nazi Germany is an unprofitable, if not impossible, task. 12. Nevertheless there is sufficient evidence to support the theory of a National Redoubt.
