Use of Chemical Warfare by the Japanese Note by Sec.

1 Jan 1945

EXTRACT FROM A REPORT BY MAJOR-GENERAL BRUNSKILL AND MR. DAVIDSON-PRATT, DATED 5TH FEBRUARY, 1945 The Japanese Attitude Towards Gas During our tour we had numerous interviews with intelligence agencies on the prospects of gas warfare starting before the Japanese were defeated. We were in possession of the appreciation of the J.I.C. and our views below are, of course, subject to any later statements that Committee may have made. The general opinion, however, appeared to be that at present, at least, the Japanese were extremely unlikely to start using gas, and were generally apprehensive lest we should start it ourselves.
