German Generals in British Hands Report by the J.I.C.

1 Jan 1945

ANNEX SUMMARY OF EVENTS IN CONNECTION WITH CAPTURED GERMAN GENERALS IN BRITISH HANDS. 1. Since September, 1943, the Senior German officers in No.11 Prisoner of War Camp in the United Kingdom have shown an everincreasing interest in the Free German Movement in Russia. This interest has been carefully fostered. 2. On 30th April, 1944, General von Thoma, the Camp Leader of No. 11 Prisoner of War Camp, approached a British Army Officer and indicated that he and other generals considered that the British Authorities were letting slip a great opportunity of counteracting, what he considered a skilful unilateral Russian move, by not endeavouring to institute a Free German Movement in Great Britain.
