ANNEX Present Situation The Germans now hold the line of the River MAAS thence North to TIEL and ARNHEM, with the additional water obstacles of the Rivers WAAL and NEDER RHIN to the rear. These form a good defensive front, particularly in winter when the low lying country between these rivers is liable to be flooded. The Germans have appreciated that the Allied forces facing them on this sector are comparatively light and that this line can therefore be held economically, with the result that they have recently reduced the forces manning it to some four to five divisions.
