Scale of Air Attack Against Forward Areas in N.W. Europe and the United Kingdom - Spring, 1945 Note by the Secretary

1 Oct 1944

EXTRACT from Minutes of C.O.S. (44) 397th Meeting (0) dated 12th December, 1944. Item 3. J.I.C. (44) 493(0) (Final). SIR CHARLES PORTAL drew attention to the statement in paragraph 14 that it was unlikely that more than 125 long range rockets out of a possible total effort of 250 launched per week in February, 1945 would be directed against London, which the J.I.C. regarded as the only probable target in the U.K. If 40% of the rockets launched actually reached London, the J.I.C. assumption would represent a scale of attack of about 8 rockets per day: this was a far greater number than we were getting at present.
