The Enemy's Intentions South of the PO after the Loss of Ravenna and Bologna Estimate by J.I.C. (A.F.)

1 Oct 1944

Defensive works have been prepared on both sides of the RENO River from the coast to CENTO (L.8574), consisting of weapon pits, MG positions and short fire trenches; no field artillery emplacements have been noted. These defences have little depth, are not continuous and do not extend S.W. from CENTO. A similar system of minor defences is seen in the area of MODENA in the form of an arc running S.E. to East to N.E. at a distance of approximately 2 km from the city. The two systems are entirely independent and there is no evidence either from P.R.
