On this basis it is estimated that the eleven synthetic plants in Central find Eastern Germany will contribute about 240,000 tens or 42½% of the total of 565,000 tons. Of this, about 250,000 would be petrol (including aviation spirit) out of which about 185,000 tons would come from synthetic plants in Central and Eastern Germany. These plants are, therefore, now the mainstay of Germany's oil position, and successful attacks on them in the next few weeks would lead to a production position as bad or worse than that in September.
