The Russian Front Report by J.I.C.

1 Oct 1944

12. The Russians have for some time past had large concentrations of land and air forces uncommitted in South Poland where they have their biggest bridgehead across the Vistula. These have recently been reinforced from the Warsaw sector. A new Army Group Headquarters appears to have been established at Lublin and half the Russian Tank (Shock) armies appear now to be between Lublin and the Carpathians. Similarly, there are reports of a new and large concentration of air forces in the same area, amounting to one third of the total Russian Air Forces on the Eastern Front.
