Operations in S.E.A.C. - Cairo Programme Note by Sec.

1 Aug 1944

Day Troops Source Remarks D (one inf. regt. Already there plus A.A. and airfield defence troops) D+4 five battalions Two battalions Transit by sea from Kywegu at night only area D+8 seven battalions Two more battalions " from Kywegu area. Land communications between Akyab and the South are most inadequate and transport must be largely by small craft at night. This will obviously be liable to serious interruption so that the prospects of these reinforcements reaching Akyab are probably remote. It is most improbable that the Japanese will be able to withdraw either of the infantry battalions fighting North of Akyab to reinforce the port's garrison.
