5. The effects of the lack of oil on the German economy are becoming more and more evident. The movement of commodities by rail and water transport is being increasingly impeded by the lack of vehicles for loading and discharging. The multiplicity of decrees and regulations attempting to make the best of the situation, the conversion of city tram systems to the carrying of essential goods, the shortage of fuel for producer gas units, are among the many signs of the growing dislocation of transport generally.
