C. To abandon Yugoslavia and Hungary entirely and to retire to the line of the Austrian Alps and the Dolomites. This would automatically be accompanied by a withdrawal from north-eastern Italy. The decision to put any of these plans into effect will depend on military considerations and the evolution of events. It is probable that, though circumstances may modify them, the enemy will actually to some extent attempt to carry out each plan successively. 3. Plan A. Plan A is ambitious but comprehensible in view of Germany's familiar reluctance to abandon territory unless compelled by overriding military necessity.
