Scale of Attack on Shipping through Aegean to Black Sea Report by J.I.C.

1 Aug 1944

Minelaying on a small scale may be carried out, possibly in the Dardanelles and its approaches. The R-boats, in addition to escort duties, have been used for minelaying. Possible Reinforcement 5. In estimating the strength of the German Naval forces in the Aegean at this time, no allowance has been made for any reinforcement from the Adriatic. With the evacuation of the Adriatic islands, Corfu and the Ionian islands, any further moves to the Aegean should prove impracticable, and on our present intelligence of enemy intentions, are most unlikely to be attempted.
