German Situation in the Balkans Report by J.I.C.

1 Aug 1944

Bulgaria. 9. The Bulgarian Government have publicly announced their intention of expelling all German military personnel from the country and of resuming full neutrality. We do not know just what they mean by "resuming full neutrality". According to press reports they have already started disarming and interning German personnel. The Bulgarian Government have made no mention of their garrisons non in Greece and Yugoslavia, but it is almost certain that they will eventually accept Allied demands for the withdrawal of these forces.
