1 Aug 1944

A volume of reports commissioned for the Joint Intelligence Sub-Committee (JIC). The JIC was formed of representatives from the intelligence services, the armed services, and the Foreign Office. Subjects covered in this file include the possibility of Germany deploying chemical weapons; the impact of the surrender of Romania and Bulgaria on German strategy; German withdrawal from the Balkans; the effects of Allied bombing on German industry and oil production; predicted Japanese reactions to the Allied use of poison gas; the likelihood of a post-war underground Nazi resistance movement; the defence of Britain and its empire from aerial attacks; Japanese psychology and military morale; the leakage of information to the press; and conditions inside Germany after its collapse.
