E.P.S./1296. TOP SECRET Secretary, Joint Intelligence Sub-Committee Use of Cocos Islands as an Air Staging Point Reference J.P.(44) 195 (E) (T. of R.) The Joint Planning Staff are examining the possibility of using the Cocos Islands as a staging point for aircraft and landing ships and craft during the war against Japan. 2. In order to complete this examination, intelligence is required on the following points assuming that thee islands are in use as a staging point by the autumn of 1944:(a) Japanese reactions to our development of the islands.
