Use of Chemical and Biological Warfare by the Germans

1 Jul 1944

GERMAN DEFENSIVE MEASURES 8. Military. Anti-gas training has been maintained at a high level throughout the past 18 months in the German army as a whole and we believe that a general gas alert was ordered before the mounting of OVERLORD throughout the German armies in the West. We also know that certain anti-gas stores normally held at Army level were decentralised to Divisions. At the same time the latest German respirator container, the FE 42, though still kept on the Secret list, was issued throughout the area of C.-in-C.
