Evacuation of the Brittany Peninsula Note by Sec. Covering Report by J.I.C.,S.H.A.E.F

1 Jul 1944

Resume of Events 7. The Germans have not shown evidence of appreciating that BRITTANY is a probable further area of assault; they have been more concerned over their position in the PAS DE CALAIS, the South of FRANCE and to a lesser extent BORDEAUX. The first infantry reinforcements against OVERLORD were drawn from BRITTANY, and the equivalent of four to five divisions has now been moved out of this area. There have been indications that one Division has gone there as a replacement, so that in the result the forces in the Peninsula have been considerably reduced.
