Probable Enemy Reaction to Occupation of Corfu After its Evacuation by the Germans (Report by J.I.C. Cairo) No. 5. Note by Sec.

1 Jun 1944

ANNEX SECRET 24 June 44 JIC CAIRO NOTE NO.5 PROBABLE ENEMY REACTION TO OCCUPATION OF CORFU AFTER ITS EVACUATION BY THE GERMANS. We have been asked to consider the enemy reaction to an Allied landing on CORFU after evacuation of the island by the Germans. Our comments are set out below. 2. Under the present circumstances the evacuation of CORFU by the enemy is highly improbable for the following reasons:(a) Such evacuation would be contrary to the general policy of holding the outer ring of islands, both to prevent the establishment of an allied bridgehead, and to make more difficult supply to the guerilla forces.
