German Intentions and Capabilities with Regard to the Pisa-Rimini Defences. (Estimate by J.I.C. Algiers J.I.C. (A.F.)24/44.)

1 Jun 1944

5. If it is nevertheless the enemy's intention to fight a defensive action on this line, he might possibly make available. up to 5 Infantry divisions from the following areas:Germany 2 Jugoslavia 1 Hungary 2 6. The decision to make such forces available is naturally to some extent dependent on events in the West and the East. Assuming, however, that the Battle of France does not meanwhile take a critical turn for the enemy, and a Russian breakthrough into the Balkans has not been achieved, it is considered that these forces may well be moved into Italy between now and mid July, at which date the Allies should be before the Rimini-Pisa position.
