Estimated Opposition to an Allied Landing on the Greek Mainland (Report by J.I.C. Cairo) No.4 Note by the Secretary

1 Jun 1944

CONCLUSIONS ESTIMATED OPPOSITION TO AN ALLIED LANDING ON THE GREEK MAINLAND CASE "A" NAVAL 1. It must be assumed that GERMAN Naval Forces would be used to resist any attempt at landing on South or West GREEK coasts. 2. The forces available are not large, but if handled properly could inflict serious damage to approaching craft. At present 5 destroyers, h E-boats and 4 R-boats are believed operationally active and could be concentrated quickly. There is also the probability that, as the threat appears, other E and R boats and possibly submarines would break out of the Adriatic.
