5. So far as the OVERLORD area of operations is concerned, it is thought that, in the light of the risks which the German High Command is taking in other theatres of war in order to defeat OVERLORD, up to 1,600 first-line aircraft (including reinforcements brought in after D Day) may become engaged in the course of operations. Of this total some 650 might be fighters. This compares with an estimate made in July, 1943, of a total of some 1,175 first-line aircraft, including some 500 fighters. 6.
