ANNEX I TO :THE SECRETARY, J.I.C. FROM :STRATEGICAL PLANNING SECTION. EUROPEAN SITUATION With reference to our Terms of Reference (J.P.(44)114 (S))+ will you please let us have a general forecast of the Axis position in Europe, political, economic and military on the 1st August 1944 on the following assumptions:(a) OVERLORD has gone according to plan and our forces are in the lodgment area bounded by a perimeter of about 300 miles. (b) In the Mediterranean, the bridgehead is linked up on the 15th June, Rome is captured by the 15th July and all available Allied resources, including the one divisional amphibious lift, will be employed on exerting the maximum pressure in Italy and following up any subsequent withdrawal by the Germans.
