TOP SECRET SECRETARY, J.I.S. (Copies to:Secretary, J.P. Strategical Section) F.P.S. WAR AGAINST JAPAN ALTERNATIVE PROPOSAL The J.P.S. have been asked to examine and report on the proposal that the main British effort against Japan should take the form of an advance on the general axis Timor Celebes Borneo Saigon. Will the J.I.S. please answer the following questions:(a) What will be the Japanese general situation in the Eastern Archipelago? (b) What Japanese forces would be likely to oppose an assault on Timor? (c) When Timor had been captured what would be the likely scale of counter-attack by the enemy? (d) When Timor had been captured what would be the Japanese forces likely to oppose an advance:(i) to capture Macassar; (ii) to capture Sourabaya by an advance along the Islands West of Timor? (iii) to capture Amboina.
