ANNEX PLANS FOR PACIFIC WAR F.M.D. 163 I EXTENT OF ACCELERATION IN PROGRAMME The programme described in this signal amounts to a considerable speeding up of the Pacific advance on that decided upon at SEXTANT*, and on that described under the "most favourable case" for the Pacific Strategy in C.O.S.(44) 183 (0)+. A comparison of these programmes is shown in Appendix. 2. The main points are:(a) Since the Marianas are now to be captured some 3½ months earlier, the V.L.R. bombing of industrial Japan will be able to start that much sooner.
