ANNEX TOP SECRET J.P. (44) 81 (0) (T. of R.) 17TH MARCH, 1944 SIMALUR Note by the Secretary The Prime Minister has instructed the Joint Planning Staff to examine the possibility and implications of the capture of the island of Simalur in November, 1944. The project should be considered:(a) As a preliminary to the capture of the Northern Tip of Sumatra in the spring of 1945 (b) By itself, as a base for heavy bomber domination of the Japanese outer ring. 2. The Future Planning Section are invited to draft a short report for consideration by the Directors of Plans at their meeting on Monday afternoon, 20th March, 1944.
