(c) The Germans are unlikely to move any divisions from the Balkans after D day unless these were needed to replace exhausted divisions in Italy or as reinforcements to repel an Allied landing, e.g. in the Istrian Peninsula. 4. Question B. What will be the probable dispositions of German land and air forces in Northern France, Southern France, Italy and the Balkans by D + 20-30? Answer (i) The broad dispositions of German forces in France and the Low Countries by D + 20-30 may be as follows:Northern France and the Low Countries 18 offensive and 4-5 defensive divisions in the bridgehead area, leaving 13-15 defensive divisions holding other coastal or rearward sectors, and 1 offensive division on the Franco-Belgian border.
